In September 2015 Young Knocknaheeny and Barnardos organised for practitioners in the area to receive training in PEEP Learning Together Programme.
This programme aims to help parents and carers to:
– value and extend learning opportunities in everyday life
– improve the quality of the Home Learning Environment
– develop secure attachment relationships with their babies and children
By supporting parents/carers, the programme aims to improve children’s:
– personal, social and emotional development
– communication and language
– early literacy development
– early numeracy development
– health and physical development.
This evidence-based Learning Together Programme values and extends what parents/carers already do. Using the ORIM framework (Opportunities, Recognition, Interaction, Modelling), it helps strengthen adult-child relationships, building children’s self-esteem and emotional self-regulation. The Programme offers information and activities that practitioners can share with parents/carers and their children, based on five main strands of children’s development.
Young Knocknaheeny now supports a PEEP network for practitioners running PEEP groups in the locality. There are a number of Parent and baby or toddlers groups using PEEP across the area including: in NICHE in Knocknaheeny, in the Hut in Gurranabraher; in Before 5 in Churchfield and in Barnardos in Knocknaheeny.
Peep in Barndardos supported by Young Knocknaheeny, is for all parents and carers with children between the ages of one and two, who would like to encouraging and learn more about their child’s learning and development.
Adults can make a real difference just by talking, playing, singing and sharing books or activities together with a child. The group is a great opportunity for parents and children to make friends, share ideas and have fun through singing, stories and activities…
The group runs for 8 weeks and we do different activities and try at least one new thing each week. Our next group is starting the 28th September 2016 from 9.30-11.00. We will run it again in the Spring. For more information or to add your name to the list for one of the groups please ring Barnardos on 021 4430 7964
